The Beethoven Philharmonie opens the artistic season 2026/27 with three major works of the late Romantic repertoire. Richard Wagner’s Siegfried Idyll was composed as a personal birthday gift for his wife, Cosima Wagner, and is considered one of his most intimate works.
Equally personal are Richard Strauss’s Four Last Songs, presented here in a new orchestral version by Richard Dünser. Setting texts by Joseph von Eichendorff and Hermann Hesse, these songs offer a poetic and serene reflection of life by the composer in his final years.
The programme concludes with Jean Sibelius’s symphonic Violin Concerto in D minor, one of the most celebrated works of Nordic Romanticism, performed with virtuosity by the acclaimed violinist Benjamin Schmid.
